Pool Pump

You Need a Pump to Move the Water

A swimming pool pump circulates water through the pool’s filtering system, mixing chemicals and sanitizing the water to keep it free of contaminants and debris like algae and bacteria. It’s important that your pump be properly sized to your pool so this cleaning system operates efficiently.

For the Magic pool, we recommend the 3/4 HP Pentair Superflo High Performance Pump. This energy efficient unit is able to change the water in the Magic 20′ pool 25 times every hour, making it quick to warm up the water after a chilly evening. This pump also provides plenty of suction for the built in vacuum on all of our pools.

You can choose to get a lower, or even a higher powered pump, but since the Magic 20′ holds only 3300 gallons of water and the Magic 16′ at 2500 gallons, the 3/4 HP is a great match.

The pump is the workhorse of the pool. It is what allows all the other connected systems to function. If the water doesn’t move, it can’t be filtered, it can’t be sanitized and it can’t be heated.

How your pool is plumbed.

In the diagram at left, we show where the water is picked up from the pool – from the 2 intakes in the bottom of the pool and from the skimmer, at the water line. The water then goes back to the pump, located near your house, is pushed from the pump through the filter and so on, until it re-enters the pool via the return jets.

If you want to vacuum the bottom of your pool, you plug the included vac hose into the inlet near the skimmer, turn the dials on the Defender Cleaning System, which shuts off suction from the floor intakes and the skimmer, giving all the suction power of the pump to the vacuum. 3 minutes later, you return the Defender to normal pool operation mode and unplug your hose.

Now you go swimming.
